Site Maintenance Worker

Part-time, hourly position from April 1 - November 30, 2019

Position Summary: The Site Maintenance Worker (SMW) will support maintenance and landscaping at Global Growers Networks’ gardens and farm sites. Tasks will include mowing, string trimming, weeding, watering, fruit tree maintenance, cleaning of communal spaces, and general upkeep. The SMW will also assist with volunteer groups, events, and special assignments, as needed.

Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working outdoors and is organized with excellent attention to detail, a high degree of motivation, and a commitment to staying on task. This is a labor intensive, task oriented role, so self-motivation to complete weekly tasks independently is absolutely necessary. Experience working with the refugee community and in multicultural and multilingual spaces in a plus. Further, the candidate must commit to a regular work schedule and honor the idea of punctuality. Finally, the candidate, like all Staff at Global Growers,  must be an ambassador, and believe in and feel connected to the mission of the organization.

Global Growers is a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in Atlanta, GA that increases the number of food producers who expand access to healthy, sustainably-grown food and also prepares farmers to be competitive in their local marketplace. Global Growers prioritizes serving international farmers who came to the U.S. as refugees, as well as others that are underserved and underrepresented in sustainable agriculture. We connect growers to land, education, and markets in Georgia through our four program areas: Community Development, Farm Operations, Education & Outreach, and Sales.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain Garden or Farm Site in accordance with predetermined task schedule to include regular mowing, string trimming, fence line clearing, and pathway clearing

  • Prepare sites for tours and events

  • Ensure equipment and tools are maintained

  • Comply with all Food Safety protocol

  • Work in coordination with volunteers and GG staff to complete projects as assigned

  • Assist with garden/farm record keeping, meetings, and events


  • Intermediate spoken English language, basic reading, writing and arithmetic abilities  

  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record (able to be insured on farm vehicles)

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs repeatedly and be on feet for a full workday

  • Experience with gardening, farming, and/or landscaping

  • Experience with landscape tools and equipment (lawn mower, string trimmer)

  • Experience with basic power/hand tools, including how to use a tape measure

  • Willingness to work on outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions

Compensation: Pay $12-14 per hour

Reports to: Community Development Coordinator

Schedule: 20-25 hours/week, scheduled Tuesday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Specific hours are determined upon hiring. Position runs from April 1 to November 30, 2019.
