Umurima Wa Burundi

Located in Decatur, Umurima is a one-acre community farm shared by a group of close-knit women from Burundi who manage it collectively. In addition to growing food for their households and to earn supplemental income, they also come together to share stories, to practice their English, to hold one another’s babies, and to compare notes on unfamiliar American customs and systems. Sometimes produce from Umurima is sold at farmers markets or included in you weekly farm share.

Our 7th annual Toast to the Culture in Agriculture event is only one day away, but there is still time to get your tickets! This is a pay what you can event and a great opportunity to come visit the farm and see where your veggies are grown! If you enjoy food, drinks, music and friendship this is the event for you!

Peaches are here and that means summer is close behind! To make sure you get the most out of your peaches this week keep them on the counter, not in your refrigerator, to allow them to ripen properly. To speed up the ripening process keep them in a paper bag.
